The Whisky Standard exists to document, in a considered editorial voice, the history and cultural heritage of whisky. We publish long-form writing on distilleries, regions, production methods and the wider social history of the spirit. Our work is intended for readers who wish to understand whisky as a craft and a tradition rather than as a marketed product.

We are wholly independent. We carry no advertising, no sponsored content and no commercial affiliations. We are not a retailer, a distributor or a promotional platform. We accept no payment from distilleries, brand owners or third-party agencies for editorial coverage, and we do not maintain paid partnerships of any kind.

Editorial independence is central to the credibility of what we publish. When a distillery or brand is discussed on this site, it is because we consider its history editorially significant, not because it has funded that coverage.

Editorial independence is not a policy for us. It is the condition of the work.

The Whisky Standard is written and edited by a small team of whisky historians and editorial writers based in the United Kingdom. Contributions may be attributed collectively as 'The Whisky Standard Editorial Team' or, where appropriate, to individual authors.

Our editorial approach is historical and contextual. We draw on primary industry sources, published historical scholarship and, where possible, the archival material of the distilleries themselves. We take particular care with dates, spellings and the technical accuracy of production descriptions.

Where corrections are required, we make them promptly and openly. Readers who identify factual errors are invited to contact us via our contact page.
